Will I perform a marriage ceremony for anyone who wants to get married?  No.  Certain conditions do apply.  But I will do everything I can to make it happen.  I will listen to you and try to understand your situation.  An initial counseling session with the couple is required before I make a decision whether or not to perform the wedding.

Before contacting me, please take a few moments to read the following pages that contain my convictions of what the Bible teaches about marriage, divorce and remarriage.  Please follow the links below.  And remember - what man has to say about marriage, divorce, and remarriage doesn’t matter.  What God says about it is what really matters!

MARRIAGE                 DIVORCE              REMARRIAGE

Living Together Before Marriage a Statistical Risk

A note to concerned clergy…

I realize that the positions I take regarding marriage, divorce and remarriage may be unpopular (and to some of you – unbiblical).  I may receive the label of “liberal” by those who want to cause problems and generalize without studying the issues further.  (Those who know me well know that I am extremely conservative.)  But that’s OK.  I can take it.  Here I stand.  I can do no other.

If you would like, you can read two sermons I preached on these subjects by clicking here and here. Allow me to cite up front (as I did when I preached these messages) that much of the material presented in these messages came from three helpful sources:

  • Ralph Edward Woodrow, Divorce and Remarriage: What Does the Bible Really Say (Ralph Woodrow Evangelistic Association Inc., 1991)
  • John MacArthur, On Divorce (Moody Press, 1985)
  • R.C. Sproul, The Intimate Marriage (Living Books, 1986)

I see counseling with couples about marriage and family, sin and forgiveness, the Gospel and the church - as a ministry to them.  I hope to see people savingly believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  And I hope to help them see the church as more than a building in which to be married and buried.

I would rather a couple come and receive Christian counseling and witness from me than to be turned away by you and get married by the Justice of the Peace or Magistrate without any Christian influence involved.

Chances are, they’re going to get married anyway.  So why not take advantage of the opportunity given and try and make the most out of it to the glory of God?
